  5. Leonardo DiCaprio’s Watches in Movies

One thing that watch companies have known for centuries is that marketing with celebrities is incredibly effective. Say what you want about big-name endorsements, but they inform many of our opinions, whether we like it or not. An excellent example of this effect is Leonardo DiCaprio. Leonardo DiCaprio’s watches in his movies have caught the eye of many people. Below, we explore the exact pieces he has worn in some of his biggest movies. Inception – Tag Heuer Carrera In this film, Leo plays a heist artist. He’s no ordinary criminal, though. Rather than breaking into buildings or safes in the real world, the character implants ideas into people’s dreams while they sleep. The movie is a favorite among many, but did you notice the timepiece he sports in it? The watch is the TAG Heuer Carrera, which is notable for two reasons. First, DiCaprio is a brand ambassador for this company and frequently appears in advertisements for them. He also sports their pieces to parties and awards shows. We’re not sure if they paid to be in this film, but Leo being in it definitely helped them get their foot in the door. The second thing to note is the extreme conditions that DiCaprio braved in the movie. He treks through snow, water, and altitude at different points in it. Luckily, his TAG Heuer is built for the roughest conditions possible and kept ticking throughout the film. Blood Diamond – Breitling Chrono Avenger Our second DiCaprio movie features a role that is vastly different than the first. In Inception, he is a sophisticated, smooth, and well-dressed criminal. In Blood Diamond, he takes on a much more rugged role as a diamond smuggler. Though he is somewhat of a thief in both, the characters are quite different. Does that mean they require different watches? No matter how different these characters are, they both seem to have a flair for luxury. The reason we say this is that in Blood Diamond, Leo wears the Breitling Chrono Avenger, which is an esteemed timepiece in its own right. What it offers is excellent craftsmanship. It is made from the finest materials, has a Swiss origin, sports a reliable automatic movement, and is water resistant up to 300 meters. Additionally, it has an attractive aesthetic and comes in at a nice size (45mm), which is neither too large nor too small. The Great Gatsby – A Raymond Weil Concept The Great Gatsby is the story of an enigmatic and wealthy man that throws gaudy parties in hopes of his old lover showing up at them. Of course, at one point, she finally does. You’ll have to find out the rest of the story for yourself. Luckily, there are three mainstream works of art that depict this tale: The original book by Scott F. Fitzgerald, a movie with Robert Redford, and another film with Leonardo DiCaprio. The final and most recent edition features an all-star cast, each of which is outfitted with luxurious clothing. One example is Leo, who wears a gorgeous looking Raymond Weil concept. It is silver, square, and exudes pure luxury, which fits the character perfectly. Unfortunately for us, the watch DiCaprio wears in the film is not real. Instead, it is an entirely unique concept piece that is not for sale. While we cannot buy it, what we can do is find a timepiece that mimics that aesthetic and energy of the one in the movie. To do so, our best recommendation is to look at the Longines Evidenza, which has a similar shape and a classy Swiss brand to back it up. Wolf of Wall Street – Tag Heuer Series 1000 Wolf of Wall Street is the story of Jordan Belfort, who experienced a meteoric rise in the investment banking industry. Throughout the film, Leo depicts this character as a drug-abusing, hard-partying maniac with a ton of charisma. His friends are no different than him, and they combine to create a great deal of tomfoolery. This movie also features an excellent array of wristwatches. While Belfort’s friends opt for Rolex and IWC, Leo sports a Tag Heuer yet again. As you might imagine, the story of an insanely wealthy investment banker should feature a luxurious piece that fits right in with the culture surrounding it. In our opinion, that’s precisely what we get with the Series 1000. The ultimate debate you must have is whether or not you should model your timepiece choice after a movie character. No matter what your answer is to that question, you’ll likely agree that Leonardo DiCaprio characters are some of the best you could choose from. Between Tag Heuer, Breitling, and Raymond Weil, you have a few excellent brands at your disposal. No matter what, we hope you found a watch that you love on this list. At the very least, you should have a couple of ideas for your next movie night.

  7. The 3 Most Popular TAG Heuer Watch Collections

One of the brands people often ask me about is TAG Heuer. What they want to know is whether this brand is a dependable manufacturer or one that inflates its prices with celebrity endorsements. This question is a fair one, as TAG Heuer watches is one of the most aggressive companies out there when it comes to marketing with ambassadors. Luckily for you, this brand also makes a variety of excellent timepieces! And it is not just a name brand with little to back it up. The next topic worth delving into is which of their collections are the most popular among watch enthusiasts. I go over three of them in the sections below. TAG Heuer Watches: Carrera In my experience, the Carrera is by far the most popular in TAG’s catalog. It has an incredibly interesting history to back it up, too. It starts in 1962 when Jack Heuer attended a racing event. His company was a participant in the race, as they provided stopwatches to the event staff. Further research led him to the infamous Carrera Panamericana race, a grueling contest that spanned large swaths of the Mexican desert. In fact, this race was so dangerous that 27 drivers died during it in just 5 years. Those dark origins did produce one thing of beauty, though. It was the Carrera collection. Heuer sought to make the Carrera the ultimate racing watch. A few features that went into doing so were water resistance, unmatched durability, and shock resistance. In addition to a chronograph and a highly useful bezel. TAG combined all that craftsmanship with a clean, attractive design, and this watch was an instant hit. That popularity has only grown over time, as the Carrera outsells every other collection. The good news for you is that are over 130 models in it, so you should be able to find one that fits your taste and needs. TAG Heuer Watches: Aquaracer TAG is known as a racing watch brand, they also venture into the diver market with their Aquaracer collection. Divers are not exactly their specialty, but these pieces have a cult following among horology enthusiasts, and many consider them to be just as good as brands like Omega. The capabilities of the top models back that claim up. The Aquaracer 500 might be the best representation of that assertion, as it can function as deep as 500m into the ocean. That is a feat that many brands do not come close to achieving. What is so nice about these watches is that you can take them anywhere. Dive pieces are notoriously tough. The Aquaracers are no exception. I especially enjoy these products because you can wear them in a broad range of environments. You can sport one for a day out on the lake, then keep it on for a luxury event that night. As an added benefit, you can buy yourself an Aquaracer for just over $1,000. Though that price might be high for many, it’s quite low when compared to other Swiss manufacturers. TAG Heuer Watches: Formula 1 The Formula 1 is yet another collection that pays its respects to racing culture. The models of old looked quite different than they do today, though. In fact, many consider them to be a response to the quartz crisis of the 70s, where plastic watches and digital displays were the norm. This model had a synthetic case and bright colors. As time went by, though, these playful pieces turned more conventional and less eye-catching. Some like this development, while others miss the former aesthetic. In its current form, the Formula 1 is quite a bit like the Carrera in that most models incorporate a useful bezel, chronograph, and other racing functions. It also combines a classic aesthetic that is both luxurious and sporty. While the models of old were edgy and innovative, I quite like the direction they’ve gone in lately. These watches look good and perform well. Their price point is about as low as Swiss brands go. The result is a TAG piece that more consumers can enjoy. The truth is that there are many excellent watch brands that specialize in the entry-level luxury price range. I’m not going to say that TAG Heuer watches blows away the likes of Omega and Tudor, but still, this company manufactures fantastic timepieces. Most of the collectors that I know either own one or hope to someday. The three collections I presented above are the most popular of TAG’s catalog. So if you decide to go with this brand, perhaps a piece in one of those three is a smart idea. No matter which you choose, I am confident that you will fall in love with your new luxury timepiece.

The starting pitcher for the New York Yankees also teamed with Hublot to launch a limited-edition Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph. Howie Kendrick Loves Vintage Timepieces It’s possible that Major League Baseball has no bigger fan of watches than Howie Kendrick. An outfielder and second baseman for the Washington Nationals, Kendrick has a unique collection of vintage watches. A few of his favorite models include a Gilt Rolex Submariner Reference 5513 — the first vintage watches he ever purchased. Dating to the 1960s, the Submariner is highly sought after by collectors because of its hard-to-find gilt dial with gold lettering. Rolex switched to a matte black dial in 1967. View this post on Instagram "I love having the straps!" #howiekendrick #hodinkee #vintagewatch #rolex #awco #watchaddict #watchnerd #submariner #watchville #ablogtowatch A post shared by Vintage Sports Watch (@vintagesportswatch) on Feb 26, 2017 at 2:13am PST Howie even has the watch’s original rivet bracelet. Another of his favorite Rolexes is a vintage Rolex Red Submariner Reference 1680, a model from the 1960s that’s coveted for its patinated Mark II dial. Howie had always had an eye for vintage field watches. Notables in his collection include a military-issued Heuer Bundeswehr. It was a sturdy chronograph from the 1960s that was widely used in the German Air Force. He’s also the proud owner of an Omega 53 Military Watch. That timepiece was commissioned by the British Royal Air Force and given to pilots in 1953. David Price Gets Quirky With G-Shock This watch is funky, fun and splashed with vivid color! A Dee and Ricky Casio G-Shock graces the wrist of Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price. Brothers and New York fashion designers Dee and Ricky Jackson are behind the smile-inducing watch. 10. Watch Guide: Different Types of Watches for Every Occasion

So many watches and so many occasions. It can get hard to know how to navigate the almost overwhelming number of combinations there are between timepieces and social situations. So below is a (loose) watch guide that will hopefully help you out when you need to put together your next outfit with your watch. Here are some things to keep in mind when you’re thinking of different types of watches for men’s fashion!  Simple and Elegant for Black Tie Looking for watches for a fancy occasion? Formal events call for a formal watch. From elegant weddings to galas and high-end business gatherings, these dress-to-impress events begin after six in the evening and the invitation will be clear about the black-tie status. There are types of watches every man should own, like a casual watch and a formal watch. Men don black suits and women wear evening dresses or ball gowns in dark colors. Watches need to reflect this style.  Watch colors should match the wardrobe, so black for men and complementary colors for women. A timepiece with a simple black leather strap and an uncomplicated dial in a dark color is most appropriate. A slim watch is best. You are going for elegance and want to avoid flash. While a more-elaborate dress watch may seem upscale and fitting for a fancy night out, it’s not. Best not to wear a watch at all than to sport a timepiece that will call attention to itself. An example of a black-tie friendly watch is the Movado Red Label with its minimalist black Museum dial and understated black alligator strap. The German watchmaker A. Lange & Söhne has a line of elegant watches with dark faces and leather straps that are perfect for black-tie affairs. Bold Without Flash for Business Formal Different people like different kinds of watches. Sharing some style attributes with black-tie watches, business formal watches should be simple and classic. Leather straps are best but you don’t have to stick with a dark dial as you would with black tie. It’s best if the watch matches and complements the wardrobe so you have any number of options with the watch’s face. From the boardroom to lunches with important clients, you want a timepiece that’s both conventionally elegant and a nod to your personal style. This watch is meant to make an impression and convey a sense of confidence. You can go with cases of silver and gold that lean to the bold side but keep the faces complication free. German watchmakers excel at striking this balance. NOMOS Glashütte has mechanical watches that are bold enough to get noticed but have a subtlety that says you’re not trying to draw attention.   Freedom to Choose with Business Casual How many different watches are there for different occasions? A lot. There is a lot more liberty when you accessorize for business-casual ensembles. You’re in the everyday wear realm so you can go with either a metal bracelet or a leather strap that matches your wardrobe, generally brown, black or a neutral hue. Best where office dress codes are employed but not overly rigid, a business-casual timepiece can range from a field watch, pilot, or even an upscale chronograph.   Your work watch also depends on the impression you are trying to make at work . An up-and-comer may wish to grab attention by sporting something like an IWC Portugieser Automatic with a rose-gold case and silver-plated dial. The more-established members of the office favor classic designs with styles that don’t need to broadcast fashion statements. While a Tag Heuer Carrera may lean to the sporty side, more-subdued models with leather straps lend themselves perfectly to the workplace. Of course, business casual isn’t just for days at the office. Casual occasions can mean a relaxed evening out with friends, brunch at a bistro or a dinner date. There are all different types of watches for occasions where you can show some style without looking like you’re trying too hard. Sports Watches for Active Outings As you may suspect, a sports watch is best when you are active. You don’t want to be hiking up a mountain trail with a leather strap or a dress watch made of precious metals. Optimally you are looking for something with a rubber or nylon strap and rugged features such as water and shock resistance. A stainless steel bracelet could work, depending upon the activities you’re engaged in. But keep in mind that you want a watch with a strap you can replace as active adventures can take a toll. Sports watches are all about versatility. You can swap in a leather strap and turn a sports watch into a dress or casual watch. Durable sports watches have a long and esteemed history and some of the world’s most famous (and most worn!) watches fall into this category. A classic since the 1950s, the Rolex Submariner is the epitome of high-end sports watches. Omega’s Speedmaster is another choice that’s been taken on active outings for decades, with nylon straps for function and dressed up with leather. Hublot is another watch brand that favors activity, notably the Big Bang and dressier Classic Fusion collections. What Do You Want on Your Travels? There are two divergent paths when talking about travel watches. You can go with classic types of watches that were designed with travelers in mind or with smartwatches. These type of watches are as much about style as the functionality. They capture the essence of travel with designs while providing functions that travelers can use. Rolex was a pioneer in travel-friendly timepieces with the Rolex GMT Master (for Greenwich Mean Time) that allows you to track different time zones with a 24-hour bezel. Vintage style is great for traditional travel watches. The maritime-inspired Hamilton Khaki Navy UTC also tracks time zones and has a wonderful throwback vibe. Originally made for the military, the Glycine Airman has since won favor from travelers of all stripes for a globe-trotting style that harkens to the 60s and 70s. But its hard to beat the functionality of a smartwatch for traveling. Get directions, book a hotel room or search for the best Mai Tai in town. It’s all right there on your wrist! The waterproof Apple Watch Series 3 receives navigation prompts, email and texts and even streams music. With a 4G signal, you can make phone calls on the go! And the hospitality industry is tailoring their services to smartwatch wearers. You can use your Apple Watch to unlock your door at Starwood Hotels. Scan airline boarding passes from your wrist with Apple’s Passbook app. Virgin Atlantic have features that work with Sony’s SmartWatch 3.  The All-Around Watch Like white t-shirts, little black dresses and good friends, some things just go with everything. A few versatile watches fall into this category (well, almost everything). The most versatile watches have stainless steel cases and leather straps. They’re simple but not stylistically minimalist. These types of watches have face functions but don’t draw attention with an assortment of complicated features. One of the more-subtle Breitling Chronomats is a versatile option. Bell and Ross have square-case watches that can be worn almost anywhere. Panerai Luminor is another brand with watches that go with a variety of occasions. However you match your watch to its appropriate occasion, don’t forget the most important aspect — you! Whatever type of watch you decide to get, the watch needs to complement your personal style and the way you wish to be perceived by the world as much as matching a specific event.

  11. 4 Best Investment Watches

The right watch can seem like a part of you. You wear it, you use it and you definitely notice if you forget to put it on one day. But there’s another dimension to owning a watch, and that’s holding your watch as an investment. Not all watches will increase in value, of course. But a handful of prestigious brands —  Rolex, Patek Philippe, Tag Heuer and Omega come to mind — hold the promise of being the best investment watches as well as classic timepieces. Best Watches to Collect for Investment Besides the brand of the watch, there are a few other features to consider before you make your first investment. You’ll want to be cautious about where you buy, so you can ensure that any watch you may purchase has been properly serviced and cared for. Most of the best-valued investment watches are mechanical and not quartz, so the movement must be in good condition. And while the watch is in your care, you’ll likewise need to get it serviced regularly to ensure it maintains its value. Start with researching a few larger brands so you understand some of the best watches to collect for investments. These four are good examples: 1: Rolex Submariner It’s true that everyone who collects watches is looking for a great Rolex Submariner. No surprise there, as it is an excellent timepiece for both wearing — as it was designed for diving and is virtually indestructible — and as an investment — due to its steady increases in value. The collection is part of the iconic Oyster line by Rolex, with an Oyster case and solid-link bracelet. You may be able to find a Submariner model for around $10,000, but many are sold for a significant six-figure sum. 2: Omega Seamaster If you’re sensing a nautical theme, that’s because many classic watch designs incorporate chronometers and other diving-related features. The Omega Seamaster is known for being on James Bond’s wrist in the British spy movies made since the 1990s. And Omega as a brand is on its way up in collectors’ eyes. Because the quartz models are being discontinued, they are likely to increase in value, meaning this could be the best investment watch you could purchase right now. 3: Patek Philippe Nautilus  Since 1976, Patek Philippe Nautilus‘ design with its distinctive rounded octagonal case has been a top luxury choice. Patek Philippe is known for exceptional craftsmanship and the Nautilus design has been a classic for more than 40 years. Modern versions of the Nautilus command upwards of $30K. While vintage styles sell for six figures, making this collection one of the best watches to collect for investments. 4: Tag Heuer Carrera Tag Heuer’s Carrera adopts a connection to car racing rather than the deep blue sea. Named for the Carrera Panamericana auto race, today’s models vary in looks. From simple and elegant to a busy face becoming of a “tool watch” with many features. Of course, watches with their own stories may make even better collectibles. If you come across a luxury watch with rare features or that was owned by a historical figure or celebrity, the value could be much higher than you’d expect. When looking for the best investment watches, there is a lot to consider — the brand, model, condition and age. And by choosing just the right watch, you could have a sound investment for your future.
