Purchasing a luxurious dive watch is a goal for almost every watch collector. Unfortunately, many of the most famous models out there are just too expensive. One of the brands that people look to when they want to save a bit of money is TAG Heuer. TAG Heuer has been around for a long time and produces a more accessible catalog of timepieces. Today, I am reviewing the TAG Heuer Aquaracer, which is one of their top-selling models.
TAG Heuer Brand
This brand’s roots go all the way back to 1860, when a man by the name of Edouard Heuer decided to enter the watch industry. Through the next 100 years or so, Heuer’s descendants took the brand to incredible heights. They came out with a variety of patents, contributed to this rich history of horology, and had a special affinity for racing culture. Like many companies, they took off after the two World Wars, and they haven’t slowed down since. What you see today is a brand with a long history and a positive reputation among watch collectors. Their many celebrity ambassadors give them extra clout in mainstream circles, too.
TAG Heuer Aquaracer Aesthetics
The Aquaracer gets an excellent grade in the aesthetics category, and that’s mostly because they don’t try too hard with the design. The dial is simple, there is a date complication, and most models have conventional coloring. They branch out a bit in two ways. The first way is the dial texture, which features horizontal lines. The second is the bezel, which has flat portions, rather than being a perfect circle. All in all, these are outstanding looking watches.
TAG Heuer Aquaracer Materials
The three crucial areas that you look at when assessing materials are the case, crystal, and strap.
This model is quite conventional in the first two categories, as they are made from stainless steel and sapphire crystal. The latter has more extensive options, as you can choose from stainless steel, rubber, or textile bracelets. No matter what you go with though, you are getting solid materials for this price range.
TAG Heuer Aquaracer Movement
Each Aquaracer comes with a Tag Heuer Caliber 5 movement. There isn’t much to say about this machinery, as it is quite standard. You’re probably going to get a power reserve of about two days, and your watch shouldn’t see too much variation in timekeeping. One positive about it is that it supports a date complication. The craftsmanship that goes into that is impressive, and this function is very useful in day to day life. Ultimately, this is a simple movement, but it gets the job done.
The best “nuts and bolts” aspect of the Aquaracer is definitely its water resistance.
As far as I can tell, each of them comes with 300m capabilities, which is quite good. You find that most mainstream luxury divers come in at that same level, unless they’re built explicitly with exceptional resistance in mind. From a practical standpoint, you never have to worry about getting this watch wet. Looking at it from a craftsmanship perspective, it is nice to know they your watch is well made enough to withstand the elements.
TAG Heuer Aquaracer Price
One of the more attractive aspects of the TAG Heuer Aquaracer is its price range. You can get your hands on almost any model in this collection for just $1,000-2,000. When it comes to Swiss pieces, and especially dive watches, you’ll have a hard time doing better than that. This makes it an excellent option for collectors who want a luxurious product, but don’t have the money to spend on a Rolex or Omega.
TAG Heuer Aquaracer General Feel
I had the privilege of wearing one of these because my dear friend is a such a generous watch collector. My overall impression was very positive. One thing that struck me about it was its weight, which is just perfect. It isn’t so heavy that it weighs you down, but not so light that it feels cheap. It hits that sweet spot like few other timepieces can. Additionally, it just has a luxurious feel to it and is a joy to have on your wrist.
So, should you purchase a TAG Heuer Aquaracer? This watch has a rich history, solid materials, and doesn’t cost an excessive amount. It also feels great on your wrist and comes from a cool company.
Ultimately, I recommend this watch to anyone who has taken a liking to it. It is a solid deal and should make you very happy. I would call purchasing it a very safe bet, and one that I would consider making myself.
