Boo! 8 Spooky Watches for Halloween

Sure, you’ve got a few ideas about costumes for Halloween, but have you thought about what you will put on your wrist? Celebrate ghouls and goblins with watches that perfectly match the witching season. From skull motifs to ghost designs and spine-chilling spiders, here are watches that perfectly complement your Halloween. 1: Hublot Celebrates with Skulls Watches While technically odes to the Mexican celebration of the Day of the Dead, Hublot’s Big Bang Calaveras make great accessories to wear during the Halloween season. The limited-edition Calaveras from the Swiss watchmaker capture the colorful spirit of the undead with floral designs integrated into the carved-skull motifs. For even more colorful fun, check out the Big Bang Broderie Sugar Skull line. These singular timepieces feature dials that are embroidered with traditional Day of the Dead-style skulls in an eye-popping variety of hues. Honor the spirit world with designs in vibrant turquoise, fiery orange, bold blue, and soft pink. Spooking has never been such fun! 2: Bejeweled Skulls with Romain Jerome Watches Romain Jerome is another luxury Swiss watchmaker that pays homage to Día de los Muertos. The first incarnation of their Day of the Dead-inspired watches features simple skull appliques on black dials with black PVD-coated cases of stainless steel and black leather straps featuring tang buckles. They later got more elaborate. The subsequent Clásico models have bezels with mini skulls and floral engravings. Some pieces in the Clasico line have faces that are covered with miniature skulls, and skull appliques with diamonds and rubies for teeth. 3: HYT Spooks with Liquid Time Yet again hailing from Switzerland, HYT gets into the skull-watch game with a twist…fluid! While water clocks have been in use since ancient times, HYT was the first to figure out how to put the time-honored technique on a wrist. How about a black-and-gold titanium timepiece with fluid that flows around a skull to show the hour? Last year HYT debuted its first pocket watch and continued its love of skull-themed designs. With no hands, the Skull Pocket shows the time with clear and colored liquids that meet to indicate the hour. 4: Creepy Crawlers on the Invicta Sea Spiders Get sporty with your Halloween accessorizing. Available in a variety of bold colors and intriguing designs, the Invicta Sea Spider is a tough and lightweight timepiece that goes with just about anything. Many of the models are perfect for trick-or-treating. Most notably are the watches with large spider charms that sit astride the 7 o’clock position, seemingly poised to crawl across a dial with a spider-web texture. 5: Gucci Gets its Ghost On Gucci has famously teamed with snowboarder-turned-artist Trevor Andrew for the Gucci Ghost line of clothing and accessories. It began as a fluke. In 2012, Andrew was looking for a last-minute Halloween costume and cut two holes in a Gucci sheet to go out as a ghost. His alter ego “Gucci Ghost” was born! He soon incorporated the iconic double-G Gucci logo in his art. The company took notice and Andrew’s affiliation was made official. Flash forward and Andrew joined forces with Italian fashion designer Alessandro Michele to create the Black G-Timeless Gucci Ghost Watch. A unisex timepiece that captures the spirit of Halloween, the watch has a playful ghost on its black face and a sapphire crystal lens. A black stainless steel PVD-coated case and sturdy black rubber strap complete the spooktacular watch. 6: Enjoy Fright Night with Fendi Watches How about a demon-eye design that seems to stare daggers at you? Pick up the Fendi Black Stainless Steel Monster Watch. Bold luminescent yellow eyes peer out from a pitch-black dial. The watch’s hands seem to form menacing eyebrows when they’re at the ten and two o’clock positions. Dual chronograph hands create feline-like pupils on the glaring eyes. A black satin-brushed stainless-steel case and Fendi’s trademark Cunoio Romano calfskin leather strap complete the eerie timepiece. 7: High-End Horror with Richard Mille Watches If you’ve got extra half a million dollars lying around, pick up a Richard Mille Tourbillon RM 052 Skull for this year’s Halloween. That is if you can even find one of the prized 21 watches that were made. Arguably the world’s most-unique skull-themed watch, the RM 052 incorporates the bold skull on its face into the movement. Crafted with grade 5 titanium, the skull’s jaws hold the tourbillon cage’s ruby, the skull’s rear is the movement’s center bridge and bridges connecting the case to the movement form a skull-and-crossbones. 8: Swatch Watches Tells Monster Time For something more accessible, how about a monster-friendly Swatch? Southern California artist Kenny Scharf brings his playful brand of whimsical art to this color-splashed timepiece. A ghoulish face that’s at once friendly and fierce adorns the watch face, while bright green snake designs trail across a plastic strap. It’s a fun and affordable way to show your Halloween spirit! Whether you go for luxury with bold skull watches or make mischief with weird and wonderful designs, a Halloween-themed watch is perfect for both tricks and treats.

  3. Baseball Players and Their Luxury Watches

Baseball Players and Their Luxury Watches

Lets take a look at the luxury watches that grace the wrists of some of the top baseball players around. Luxury Watches Matt Harvey and CT Scuderia Cincinnati Reds pitcher Matt Harvey honors a decidedly different sport with his watch of choice — land speed racing! Harvey’s CT Scuderia Salt Flat Racer 0-60 pays homage to the flats of the Great Salt Lake Desert and the auto racing that takes place on its hard, smooth surface. Blending Swiss-made movement with Italian design, the watch captures the essence of “zero to sixty” competitions with a stopwatch-inspired case and vintage-style chronographs. José Bautista Represents Hublot Baseball legend José Bautista is a brand ambassador for Hublot. The third baseman and right fielder for the Philadelphia Phillies joined with the Swiss watchmakers to create his namesake version of the Classic Fusion Chronograph. The special-edition luxury watch is an all-black model with a case of black ceramic and a black rubber and alligator strap. The watch’s chronograph resembles a baseball with stitching and José’s signature adorns the back of the case. Giancarlo Stanton and TAG Heuer Along with football great Tom Brady, Giancarlo Stanton is a brand ambassador for TAG Heuer who champions the Carrera Heuer 01. The designated hitter and outfielder for the New York Yankees partnered with the Swiss watchmakers in 2015 when he was a player for the Miami Marlins. Stanton stepped out in the Big Apple wearing his Carrera Chronograph, with a black-and-silver skeleton dial housed in a black PVD-treated case. Produced by Hublot alum Jean-Claude Biver, the watch takes classic chronograph design and gives it a modern update. Masahiro Tanaka Breaks Ground With Hublot The first Hublot brand ambassador to hail from Japan, Masahiro Tanaka serves as the inspiration for the Aero Bang MT88. The starting pitcher for the New York Yankees also teamed with Hublot to launch a limited-edition Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph. Howie Kendrick Loves Vintage Luxury Watches It’s possible that Major League Baseball has no bigger fan of watches than Howie Kendrick. An outfielder and second baseman for the Washington Nationals, Kendrick has a unique collection of vintage watches. A few of his favorite models include a Gilt Rolex Submariner Reference 5513 — the first vintage watches he ever purchased. Dating to the 1960s, the Submariner is highly sought after by collectors because of its hard-to-find gilt dial with gold lettering. Rolex switched to a matte black dial in 1967. Howie even has the watch’s original rivet bracelet. Another of his favorite Rolexes is a vintage Rolex Red Submariner Reference 1680, a model from the 1960s that’s coveted for its patinated Mark II dial. Howie had always had an eye for vintage field watches. Notables in his collection include a military-issued Heuer Bundeswehr. It was a sturdy chronograph from the 1960s that was widely used in the German Air Force. He’s also the proud owner of an Omega 53 Military Watch. That timepiece was commissioned by the British Royal Air Force and given to pilots in 1953. David Price Gets Quirky With G-Shock This watch is funky, fun and splashed with vivid color! A Dee and Ricky Casio G-Shock graces the wrist of Boston Red Sox pitcher David Price. Brothers and New York fashion designers Dee and Ricky Jackson are behind the smile-inducing watch. While the rear of the case features caricatures of the designing duo. The two have crafted three separate versions of the gearbox-style watch. Justin Verlander Brandishes a Breitling Houston Astros pitcher Justin Verlander was spotted with his wife Kate Upton at a Breitling gala in New York City. Prior to the event, Verlander was showing off a new timepiece on Instagram. His special-edition self-winding Breitling Navitimer 8 is an engineering marvel with a ratchet-wheel chronograph and power reserve that tops 70 hours. Baseball is as timeless as cold beer and ballpark hotdogs under autumn skies. This year’s 114th World Series will have a winner, a loser and notoriously unpredictable plays. One thing is for very likely, the players will go home to some seriously nice watches.

  4. Bling It On! Top Luxury Watches of Hip-Hop Stars

Bling It On! Top Luxury Watches of Hip-Hop Stars

Wherever you find hip-hop stars you’ll encounter some of the world’s top luxury watches. From classic gold timepieces to diamond-encrusted wonders, lets take a look at high-end watches of hip-hop stars. Kanye West Rolls With Rolex You’ll probably see a Rolex on the wrist of Kanye West. Kanye is often wearing a now-discontinued Submariner 16613. The two-tone stainless steel timepiece with an iridescent dial has been hard to get a hold of since its discontinuation. Unlike its replacement, the 11613 model, Kayne’s watch has slim hands, small markers, and narrow case lugs. You can also see West wearing a custom all-black Rolex Submariner and he was captured on an episode of Keeping up With the Kardashians sporting a gold Rolex Oyster Perpetual Day-Date.   Pharrell Prefers Richard Mille He’s a producer, rapper, artist, and designer — just to name a few of Pharrell‘s job descriptions! Of course, his watches are equally eclectic and he often chooses to wear an iconoclastic Richard Mille. Pharrell was seen on the Golden Globes red carpet wearing a Richard Mille RM-031, one of only ten of the futuristic timepieces that were made. With a price tag north of $50,000, the RM-031 departs from Mille’s trademark tonneau and barrel-shaped designs with a rounded case. However, it shares the same Formula One-inspired elements such as lightweight steel accents, intricate tourbillon movement, and direct-impulse escapement. Nas and His Many Rolexes While his lyrics have referenced a litany of luxury watches including Hublot, Panerai and Audemars Piguet, hip-hop icon Nas is a die-hard Rolex man. Over the years we’ve seen him wearing three models in the President series, including a classic yellow gold Day-Date II with a champagne dial and a vintage Day-Date with a coral dial that was all the rage in the 1970s. Nas has also been a fan of two different yellow gold Sky Dwellers and a stainless steel Submariner with a black bezel and a black dial. DJ Khaled Does Patek Philippe DJ Khaled goes big with just about everything, so naturally the same applies to what he wears on his wrist. You’d be well advised to put on a pair of sunglasses before looking at his diamond-studded Patek Philippe Nautilus. The Nautilus comes with a hefty price tag with its rounded octagon bezel and unique porthole case. Available in rose gold, white gold, steel, and two-tone variations, the exquisite sports watch has been a companion to active and upscale lifestyles since its debut in 1975.  Nicki Minaj Defies Convention With Rolex Boldness has been a theme for Nicki Minaj since she entered the hip-hop scene. It’s no wonder she eschews tradition and dons a men’s classic Rolex Day-Date in the video for “Beez in the Trap.” Dubbed the President watch, the timeless model, which comes in platinum or 18-carat gold, has been a staple of style since its debut in 1956. Of course, Minaj also rotates modern timepieces and diamond-encrusted watches into her forward fashion. Rick Ross Goes Glitzy With Audemars Piguet What‘s “frosted gold” you ask? You can find the dazzling design on the wrist of Rick Ross. His Audemars Piguet Royal Oak has a white gold frosting finish, created by a process called the Florentine Technique, which punches small depressions into the gold to create a carpet of facets that makes the surface shimmer. The Frosted Gold version is just one of the many incarnations the Royal Oak has seen over the years since it first hit the watch scene in 1971. Ross is also an owner of a Patek Philippe Calatrava. While not cheap, you can get a classic Calatrava with a yellow gold bezel and black alligator strap for considerably less than a frosted Royal Oak. Birdman is all About the Diamonds If you spot Birdman chances are you can get a glimpse of his Hublot King Power Split Second Gold Pave. Actually, 248 big differences — diamonds! Beyond its overload of jewels, the King Power has an 18-carat gold case. If that’s not enough, it also has a black carbon dial with rose gold markers. But the King Gold isn’t the most extravagant watch in Birdman’s collection. That distinction goes to his diamond-encrusted Chopard. Only two of the shockingly bejeweled timepieces were made. Elton John owns the second absurdly ostentatious watch with a dollar-sign design in diamonds. They each shelled out about 1.5 million dollars to own the extravagant pieces. Jay-Z Breaks the Bank With Beyoncé Step aside Elton John and Birdman, Jay-Z has got you beat when it comes to diamond-encrusted watches. His wife Beyoncé gave him one of the most-expensive Hublot has ever produced for his 43rd birthday. From a diamond face to bezel and bracelet, it has a value of around 5 million dollars. Jay-Z has given shout-outs to Hublot with lyrics on the tracks “Picasso Baby” and “Nickels and Dimes.” But his love of luxury watches began well before his Hublot days with Beyoncé. In the 1990s, Jay-Z came to fame sporting a platinum Rolex Day-Date and over the years has amassed a collection. The collection includes Rolex Sky-Dwellers as well as models from Audemars Piguet and Jaeger-LeCoultre. Drake Goes With Vintage Rolexes Noted for his fashion as well as rapping, Drake has a soft spot for traditional Rolex watches. One of the more unique watches in his collection is a Rolex Oyster Quartz dating to the 1970s. But he’s most often seen wearing other classic models from the Rolex line, including a Rolex Yacht-Master II, GMT-Master II and Sky-Dweller. How to explain the inseparable fusion of hip-hop and luxury watches? Perhaps rapper Meek Mills sums it up best in the intro to the album “Dreams and Nightmares”: “There was something bout that Rollie when it first touched my wrist…Had me feeling like that dope boy when he first touched that brick.”

  5. Matching Watches With Your Winter Clothes

Matching Watches With Your Winter Clothes

You know which sweaters go with your favorite jeans. You’ve chosen the perfect overcoat to match your work outfits, and have your eye on an amazing scarf. But have you thought about how matching watches will fit into your winter wardrobe? Here are a few tips for matching watches with cold-weather clothing.  Matching Watches, A Touch of Green and Gold Matching watches with your wardrobe isn’t rocket science. And green is a great color to mix into your winter wardrobe. Add a bit of boldness to your basic black ensemble with a deep-green coat. From your favorite jeans-and-sweater weekend wear to dress-casual outfits, a green scarf is a wonderful way to put some pizazz in an otherwise unremarkable look. And nothing goes better with green than gold watches. But you don’t need to spend a fortune to shine with gold. Armani Exchange has both the prestige and look of a top-name brand without the price tag. Their line of gold-plated watches can have you looking like a high-end watch aficionado without the cost. Tommy Hilfiger is another brand with men’s watches that look more prestigious than their price tags. Give the gold Luke Watch a gander. Of course, if you want to go with true luxury, a great gold watch for men and convention-defying women is the Rolex GMT-Master II. In yellow gold or 18-carat everose gold, this classic never goes out of style. For women, Vivienne Westwood has some striking gold watches in their Bow and Bloomsbury lines. Evolved from their punk roots, Westwood’s watches span from simple-yet-elegant to bold and quirky. Promoted by Kendall Jenner, the Classic Petite Melrose from Daniel Wellington is a wonderful gold timepiece that’s beloved by the young and young in spirit. A Great Winter Look A current trend is mixing shades of browns for some sensational cold-weather outfits. On recent runways, we‘ve seen an outpouring of brown winter wear. From Fendi’s double F-clad worker jackets to deep-brown blazers, bomber jackets and overcoats from Kim Jones. You’re bound to see the stylish keeping warm with brown Mac coats and dark-brown corduroy jackets. But don’t make the mistake of accessorizing with an all-black watch. Better to sport complementing shades of brown leather with your timepiece. For men and women, a great watch that blends well with brown is the Movado Edge, with a silver-hued aluminum dial and brown looped leather strap. A relative newcomer to the watch scene, Alpina has some attractive watches that lend themselves to brown leather straps. Consider the Startimer Pilot with a white matte dial. The Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope has clean and simple lines that mesh well with the natural vibe of brown ensembles. The Braun BN0021 is another understated gem that feels at once basic and sophisticated — perfect to match the upscale-yet-downplayed look of your layered brown outfit. Complement Camel With Silver While technically in the brown category, camel coats are not always best worn with multi-brown outfits. The popular and versatile overcoats are better matched with neutral tones and the odd dash of color. The most-fitting watch to match with camel is silver. A wonderful men‘s silver watch that won’t contrast with the soft camel tone is the Tissot Luxury Automatic in stainless steel. Camel also lends itself to mixing in a bit of black and leaves you free to wear watches like the TAG Heuer Men’s Stainless Steel Watch. The classic silver-and-black timepiece will never go out of style. A great camel-matching TAG Heuer for women is the Formula 1. Check out polished-steel models with white ceramic accents that exude a soft side without losing any of the brand’s famed boldness. Similar to TAG Heuer, the Tissot Dressport is a chronograph often worn by women that lends itself to complementing camel. Pair Your Orange Wear With Black Orange is all over winter streetwear this season. From jackets, sweaters, shoes and even pants, the Halloween hue makes for a bold wardrobe choice. Of course, it’s best to mix in some offsetting tones such as charcoal to avoid looking like a pumpkin. Black-on-black watches are the best choice for your orange outings. All-black beauties for men and women include the Braun BN0171, with a black case and black dial featuring hints of gray on hour markers. A bit of yellow and white on the hands makes the midnight motif all the more striking. Debuting in 1976, the TAG Heuer Monza was one of the first all-black watches and today’s incarnations continue the deliciously dark tradition. The Tudor Black Bay Dark has bold red accents on the bezel of the otherwise all-black PVD-coated watch. Tudor has a Black Bay for women with a NATO fabric strap and an oversized snowflake hour hand. A beaded bezel is a big attraction on the all-black Breitling Navitimer 8. Matching Watches Sporty Looks Back in Style Fashion trends regenerate and you’ll see lots of style from the 90s on the street this winter. Sporty looks that echo workout wear are again in vogue with two-piece shell suits, tracksuits and bucket hats. Nature-ready sports gear also abounds with Giorgio Armani’s backpacks and hiking boots from Bally and Moncler. These sporty looks are the perfect opportunity to rotate in your favorite smartwatch. Without throwing shade on the iWatch, there are a lot of new smartwatches that don’t sacrifice style for function. Skagen’s Falster 2 Smart Watch positively oozes minimalist style. The Touchscreen Smartwatch from Emporio Armani captures the brand’s iconic statement-making designs.  Movado stays sleek with its Connect Smart Watch, while Breitling goes big with its titanium Exospace B55. Game of Thrones constantly reminds us that “Winter is Coming.” As you are breaking out your best sweaters and shopping for that perfect coat, don’t forget that a watch is an integral part of your winter wardrobe.

  6. Watch Fashion: A Closer Look At Tom Brady’s Watch Collection

Watch Fashion: A Closer Look At Tom Brady’s Watch Collection

Professional athletes shine when they are playing their games, but they also shine when they’re off the field – with their watches. Tom Brady has made headlines for things that has to do with football and not, but two things are certain: Tom Brady is one of the greatest quarterbacks to ever play professional football and he has impeccable taste in luxury watches. A True TAG Heuer Loyalist While Brady has been seen sporting several watch brands over the years, these days he will only talk about TAG Heuer. The 41-year-old was named a brand ambassador for the Swiss watchmakers in 2015 and since has shown fierce loyalty in promoting their finer pieces at public events. The watch that Brady is most known for is the time-honored TAG Heuer Carrera. Debuting in 1964, the famed racing watch pays tribute to the legendary Mexican open-road race La Carrera Panamericana. But Brady’s love for the iconic sport watch predated his association with the brand by more than a decade. The first high-end watch Tom ever purchased was a Carrera, as a well-earned gift to himself after winning his first Super Bowl in 2002. Tag HeuerFlash forward to today and Brady has a collection of Carreras, including his very own signature model. The limited edition Tom Brady Special Edition Heuer 01 Chronograph has a deep blue dial and a prominent number 12 in red as a nod to his jersey number. Brady collaborated on the design that features a brushed stainless steel case with a fixed ceramic bezel and a domed anti-reflective crystal. TAG Heuer gifted Tom with a one-of-a-kind watch after his fifth Super Bowl victory. Brady is a five time champion, so it was only right he got a custom-made Carrera Tourbillon Chronograph engraved with “5 Championships” on the back of its titanium case. Polished black finishes grace a sleek skeletonized dial, openwork rotor and chronograph bridges on the watch. Smartwatches for Sportier Times The dressier TAG Heuers are often on Brady’s wrist as he and his supermodel wife Gisele Bündchen stroll red carpets, attend galas and spend time in the spotlight. In more casual settings, you are apt to see Brady wearing a smartwatch. One of his favorite is believed to be the TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45. Debuted in 2015, the Intel-powered timepiece syncs with both iOS and Android phones. Unlike other smartwatches, the design mirrors TAG’s traditional watches with a titanium case and a bezel that echoes the Carrera. Tom prefers basic black, but you can swap in straps in a variety of colors including red, green, orange and yellow. Brady also had a hand in designing a personalized dial on the TAG Heuer Connected. His signature face features the red, white and blue colors he sports on his New England Patriots uniform. It also has Tom’s name on the face and his number 12 prominently displayed in large form. Fan of a Classic Rolex Like other famous watch aficionados like Daniel Craig, Brady has been seen wearing a 50th Anniversary GV Rolex Milgauss.  Brady dons sharp suits when he wears his Milgauss and swaps out the watch’s Oyster bracelet for an elegant black leather strap. Partial to Audemars Piguet In the days before he was an ambassador for TAG Heuer, Brady was often seen wearing an Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Gold. With a design that dates to the early 70s without feeling locked in a time warp, the Royal Oak Gold is instantly recognizable. It’s notable because of the octagonal bezel with visible screws to give it an industrial-chic vibe. It has an 18k rose gold case and an elegant leather strap. The textured Grande Tapisserie dial combines to help create the unique look. He Was Once a Movado Man Years before Brady signed with TAG Heuer he was behind a limited edition Movado chronograph. It comes in two versions. One of the Tom Brady watches is crafted with a surgical grade stainless steel alloy. It’s dubbed “Performance Steel” and comes with either a black or silver dial. In keeping with the durability needed for an NFL star, the model has a Kevlar-reinforced XTremeResin strap. Or you can opt for a more refined model in 18 karat rose gold with an alligator strap. An IWC for Charity Brady was once the proud owner of an IWC Portugieser Chronograph Rattrapante. With 29 jewels and a gorgeous silver dial, this nickel-finished timepiece was a flashy entry in his enviable collection. Brady donated the watch for an auction to help Best Buddies, a non-profit that aids people with developmental disabilities. Tom is back on the field this fall. He broke a record in the Patriots’ season opener. Brady has the most wins by a quarterback over the age of 40.  We can be sure he’s celebrating while wearing a really nice watch.

  7. Watch Guide: How to Match Your Watch and Clothes

Watch Guide: How to Match Your Watch and Clothes

You’ve just splurged on a seriously nice timepiece. You want to show it off. But you might also want to take a deep breath and consider how you are wearing your watch. Mismatching your timepiece and your wardrobe will send a negative message out to the world. While no rules are absolute, there are some general guidelines for matching your watch with your clothing. Keep the Formality Levels in Line This one might sound easy but it’s surprising how many people make this watch mistake. Just because that watch is expensive doesn’t mean it goes with formal attire. Only one watch pairs well with a black-tie ensemble — a dress watch. Your high-end Omega dive watch, Rolex racing watch and Breitling pilot watches are great but these luxury watches don’t belong at the most formal of formal events. The dress watch should have a minimalist face and a black leather band (stay away from brown, which is more for business wear). Business wear gives you a little more leeway. While a dress watch such as the famed Patek Philippe Calatrava with a black alligator strap is still an option, business dress also lends itself to nice dive watches. If you want to go the dive watch route with a suit, think slim. Bulky dive watches clash with suits, so you want something slimmer with an elegant design and a leather strap. Keep it simple and traditional in gold or silver. If you choose a dive watch for business wear, wear it boldly. Remember that James Bond famously paired his elegant suits with a Rolex Submariner. The best of both worlds? Consider getting a watch that can be used in formal and business settings. A simple silver dress watch with a plain face in white, gray or black can be incredibly versatile. Use a black leather strap for a more formal look and a brown strap for business dress or even going smart casual. Wide Span of Smart Casual Dressing smart casual gives you lots of options to accessorize with your watch. This look spans a wide range. It can be easier for men, running from a dress button down paired with some slim-cut chinos or a blazer with grey flannel trousers and no tie. For women, a rule of thumb is avoiding outfits you would wear to work — no suits or skirts! Think a sharp blazer and dark tailored jeans, a blouse and dress pants, and really any look that feels fashionable without leaning to conservative. Smart casual dress is best paired with more casual-leaning timepieces such as racing, pilot and field watches. Keeping Things Totally Casual When you go totally casual your watch should too. Jeans and a t-shirt are perfectly matched with a field watch. But of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t break the rules. From David Beckham to Ellen DeGeneres, many a famous watch aficionado has donned a chronograph or dive watch while totally dressed down in the most casual of looks. A near universal constant, jeans and t-shirts can be paired with nearly anything and that applies to your watch choice as well. Casual also gives you the freedom to let your sporty side loose. A good sports watch with a rubber strap works with almost any casual ensemble. If you want a sports watch that you can wear with a variety of outfits, stay away from bold color schemes such as red, orange and yellow. While they‘re great to add some flair to your wardrobe, you will get more mileage out of basic black or deep navy. When Do I Wear My Smartwatch? By design, smartwatches are generally best paired with casual dress. Sure, an Apple Watch has stylish bands that make it look sleek. The Sony Smart Watch is a minimalist wonder. And the Intel-powered TAG Heuer? Well, that’s so strikingly similar to a mechanical watch you almost don’t realize that it’s a smartwatch. But just almost. Smartwatches never quite rise to the level of formal, or even appropriate for business or smart casual. (Maybe the TAG Heuer if nobody looks too closely!). So, if you have a smartwatch on your wrist, keep it casual. Selecting Straps for Shoes and Belts If you’re wearing brown shoes and a brown belt, a black leather watch strap will look out of place. And vice versa for black belts and shoes. This gets trickier with sports watches with rubber straps and field watches with NATO straps that come in a variety of colors. Find a color wheel online to see which colors match well with others to create an outfit that’s properly balanced. The Dos and Don’ts of Matching Metals Consider the other metal accessories you’ll be wearing when deciding whether to put on a gold or silver watch. From rings, earrings and necklaces to belt buckles and cufflinks, you don’t want a predominantly silver motif clashing with a gold watch. And the opposite as well. Consider the colors of your outfits. If you’re wearing a color scheme with blacks, grays and blues, go with a silver watch. If you’re dressing in earth tones and shades of tan and brown, best to complement with a gold watch. While you shouldn’t wear your Apple Watch to a black-tie gala, or a dress Patek Philippe for a pick-up game of basketball, don’t get too bogged down with the rules. Consider the guidelines and then just do what you think best matches your innate sense of personal style!

Many call him “Matty Ice” but you could also call Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan “Kermit.” The latter is the nickname of the green-themed Rolex Submariner that’s often seen on Ryan’s wrist. With a vibrant green bezel that beautifully contrasts a black dial, the discontinued 16610LV sports watch is a must-have for serious collectors. Ryan’s teammate Julio Jones is all about the Sky-Dweller. Considered one of the best wide receivers to ever play the game, Jones also makes a statement off the field with the Everrose timepiece. The Sky-Dweller is a newer entry in the Rolex line, having debuted in 2012. It’s since gained acclaim for its durability and practical functions in a sophisticated package. Staying with Atlanta, running back Devonta Freeman makes a big impact with his yellow gold Day-Date Rolex President. At 41 millimeters, Freeman’s Day-Date is larger than most others in the line and stands out as an enviable dress watch. The Day-Date President has been a prestige timepiece since its debut in 1956, crafted completely of precious metals with a design that never feels dated. More Rolex Timepieces Known for his bold fashion choices, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton wears a Rolex Yacht-Master II when he’s off the field. One of the first luxury sports watches to garner international attention, the Rolex Yacht-Master has embodied the spirit of sailing since the 1950s. The chronograph that was crafted to withstand the rigors of regattas is a quintessential model of combining practical functions and timeless style. Much like Dak Prescott’s classic style when he strolls red carpets, the Datejust is the epitome of enduring elegance. The watch debuted in 1945 and later incarnations have maintained the unique design that makes it one of the world’s most recognizable watches. Dak’s Datejust 41 features a dark rhodium dial that’s offset by 18 carat gold hour markers. A jubilee bracelet completes the classic design. Russell Wilson, the quarterback for the Seattle Seahawks, has also been spotted wearing a Datejust. View this post on Instagram @gentsplaybook A post shared by Dak Prescott (@_4dak) on Jul 17, 2017 at 10:51am PDT De’Anthony Thomas is a big fan of the Rolex Daytona. The Kansas City Chief’s wide receiver has been spotted with his gold Rolex Daytona during warm-ups for the Valero Alamo Bowl. While it’s never been verified by photos or video, legend has it Thomas wore the watch during all four quarters. True or not, the Daytona is a good choice to withstand the blows of an NFL game. Check out a brief history on Rolex watches here. A Saint Who Sports Panerai As iconic as the city he plays for, New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has a collection of Panerai watches. The Italian watchmakers have been crafting exclusive timepieces in Florence since 1860. “Breesus,” as he’s known by fans, has been spotted wearing a Historic Base Panerai Luminor, a minimalistic marvel with a black dial and vintage-style cream-colored markers. Playing for Patek Philippe Malik Jackson’s first really big purchase was a Patek Philippe. The defensive tackle for the Jacksonville Jaguars dropped $150,000 on a Patek Philippe World Time soon after he solidified his spot in the NFL. The watch models are recognizable by their dials that track multiple time zones, while the limited production has made them sought-after watches since their debut in the 1930s. But Malik didn’t stop there! He soon picked up a Patek Nautilus in rose gold and a Patek Philippe 5205 in white gold to complete his collection. Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is apt to have a Patek Philippe Calatrava gracing his wrist. His go-to Calatrava has a rose gold case with a sapphire crystal back and Patek’s trademark hobnail-style bezel. An enamel dial features Roman numerals and Rodgers finishes his watch with a sophisticated brown alligator strap. A Big Fan of Breitling One of the most fashion-forward players in the NFL has a love for Breitling timepieces. New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. gets attention for his talented work on the field. It’s hard not to notice his wild mane of floppy blond hair and the creative designs shaved into his scalp. But he’s also got a sophisticated side and we’re as likely to spot Beckham looking formal in a tailored suit at galas and events. That’s where you’ll see him wearing a custom diamond-encrusted Breitling chronograph. Wherever you find sports stars, you will encounter luxury timepieces and the NFL is no exception.

  9. Watch Guide: Different Types of Watches for Every Occasion

Watch Guide: Different Types of Watches for Every Occasion

So many watches and so many occasions. It can get hard to know how to navigate the almost overwhelming number of combinations there are between timepieces and social situations. So below is a (loose) watch guide that will hopefully help you out when you need to put together your next outfit with your watch. Here are some things to keep in mind when you’re thinking of different types of watches for men’s fashion!  Simple and Elegant for Black Tie Looking for watches for a fancy occasion? Formal events call for a formal watch. From elegant weddings to galas and high-end business gatherings, these dress-to-impress events begin after six in the evening and the invitation will be clear about the black-tie status. There are types of watches every man should own, like a casual watch and a formal watch. Men don black suits and women wear evening dresses or ball gowns in dark colors. Watches need to reflect this style.  Watch colors should match the wardrobe, so black for men and complementary colors for women. A timepiece with a simple black leather strap and an uncomplicated dial in a dark color is most appropriate. A slim watch is best. You are going for elegance and want to avoid flash. While a more-elaborate dress watch may seem upscale and fitting for a fancy night out, it’s not. Best not to wear a watch at all than to sport a timepiece that will call attention to itself. An example of a black-tie friendly watch is the Movado Red Label with its minimalist black Museum dial and understated black alligator strap. The German watchmaker A. Lange & Söhne has a line of elegant watches with dark faces and leather straps that are perfect for black-tie affairs. Bold Without Flash for Business Formal Different people like different kinds of watches. Sharing some style attributes with black-tie watches, business formal watches should be simple and classic. Leather straps are best but you don’t have to stick with a dark dial as you would with black tie. It’s best if the watch matches and complements the wardrobe so you have any number of options with the watch’s face. From the boardroom to lunches with important clients, you want a timepiece that’s both conventionally elegant and a nod to your personal style. This watch is meant to make an impression and convey a sense of confidence. You can go with cases of silver and gold that lean to the bold side but keep the faces complication free. German watchmakers excel at striking this balance. NOMOS Glashütte has mechanical watches that are bold enough to get noticed but have a subtlety that says you’re not trying to draw attention.   Freedom to Choose with Business Casual How many different watches are there for different occasions? A lot. There is a lot more liberty when you accessorize for business-casual ensembles. You’re in the everyday wear realm so you can go with either a metal bracelet or a leather strap that matches your wardrobe, generally brown, black or a neutral hue. Best where office dress codes are employed but not overly rigid, a business-casual timepiece can range from a field watch, pilot, or even an upscale chronograph.   Your work watch also depends on the impression you are trying to make at work . An up-and-comer may wish to grab attention by sporting something like an IWC Portugieser Automatic with a rose-gold case and silver-plated dial. The more-established members of the office favor classic designs with styles that don’t need to broadcast fashion statements. While a Tag Heuer Carrera may lean to the sporty side, more-subdued models with leather straps lend themselves perfectly to the workplace. Of course, business casual isn’t just for days at the office. Casual occasions can mean a relaxed evening out with friends, brunch at a bistro or a dinner date. There are all different types of watches for occasions where you can show some style without looking like you’re trying too hard. Sports Watches for Active Outings As you may suspect, a sports watch is best when you are active. You don’t want to be hiking up a mountain trail with a leather strap or a dress watch made of precious metals. Optimally you are looking for something with a rubber or nylon strap and rugged features such as water and shock resistance. A stainless steel bracelet could work, depending upon the activities you’re engaged in. But keep in mind that you want a watch with a strap you can replace as active adventures can take a toll. Sports watches are all about versatility. You can swap in a leather strap and turn a sports watch into a dress or casual watch. Durable sports watches have a long and esteemed history and some of the world’s most famous (and most worn!) watches fall into this category. A classic since the 1950s, the Rolex Submariner is the epitome of high-end sports watches. Omega’s Speedmaster is another choice that’s been taken on active outings for decades, with nylon straps for function and dressed up with leather. Hublot is another watch brand that favors activity, notably the Big Bang and dressier Classic Fusion collections. What Do You Want on Your Travels? There are two divergent paths when talking about travel watches. You can go with classic types of watches that were designed with travelers in mind or with smartwatches. These type of watches are as much about style as the functionality. They capture the essence of travel with designs while providing functions that travelers can use. Rolex was a pioneer in travel-friendly timepieces with the Rolex GMT Master (for Greenwich Mean Time) that allows you to track different time zones with a 24-hour bezel. Vintage style is great for traditional travel watches. The maritime-inspired Hamilton Khaki Navy UTC also tracks time zones and has a wonderful throwback vibe. Originally made for the military, the Glycine Airman has since won favor from travelers of all stripes for a globe-trotting style that harkens to the 60s and 70s. But its hard to beat the functionality of a smartwatch for traveling. Get directions, book a hotel room or search for the best Mai Tai in town. It’s all right there on your wrist! The waterproof Apple Watch Series 3 receives navigation prompts, email and texts and even streams music. With a 4G signal, you can make phone calls on the go! And the hospitality industry is tailoring their services to smartwatch wearers. You can use your Apple Watch to unlock your door at Starwood Hotels. Scan airline boarding passes from your wrist with Apple’s Passbook app. Virgin Atlantic have features that work with Sony’s SmartWatch 3.  The All-Around Watch Like white t-shirts, little black dresses and good friends, some things just go with everything. A few versatile watches fall into this category (well, almost everything). The most versatile watches have stainless steel cases and leather straps. They’re simple but not stylistically minimalist. These types of watches have face functions but don’t draw attention with an assortment of complicated features. One of the more-subtle Breitling Chronomats is a versatile option. Bell and Ross have square-case watches that can be worn almost anywhere. Panerai Luminor is another brand with watches that go with a variety of occasions. However you match your watch to its appropriate occasion, don’t forget the most important aspect — you! Whatever type of watch you decide to get, the watch needs to complement your personal style and the way you wish to be perceived by the world as much as matching a specific event.

  10. Common Watch Problems and How to Fix Them

Common Watch Problems and How to Fix Them

You’ve got a problem with your watch. You’re handy. You’re pretty sure you can fix it yourself… but have you asked yourself “how do I fix my watch?” Watch problems and issues might be more common than you think. Here are some common issues and tips on how to fix a watch. Before you begin, it’s important to understand that fixes done by anyone other than a watch-repair professional can affect the worth of your watch. The resale value of a luxury watch is highest when you have service records and its best that those services are performed by the manufacturer. But if that’s not a concern – roll up your sleeves and try to learn how to repair a watch! How to Open a Case It all starts with opening up your watch. A few exceptions aside, there are four kinds of watch cases you will encounter when you’re learning how to fix a wrist watch. 1. Snap-Back: To open a snap-back case use a penknife or similar thin, flat blade to pry open the case at the raised lip with a twist of the blade. 2. Screw-Back: You’ll want to pick up a screw-back removal tool for this type. Resembling a pair of pincers, the tool slips into slots on the perimeter of the case. Twist counterclockwise to open, finishing with your fingers after the tool has loosened the cover. 3. Case with Screws: These cases generally have four Phillips-head screws that can be removed with a small screwdriver. 4. Swatch-Style Case: These ports can be twisted open using a coin. You don’t actually remove the cover of the sealed case but do get access to the battery. My Watch Has Stopped Ticking Wondering how to fix a watch that stopped ticking? Or your automatic watch stopped working? Hint, it’s probably the battery. This may sound like a simple watch fix, but it’s something you might overlook. Check the battery. Many watch batteries have lives of about two years. That number can go up to three years or more with a quartz watch that’s designed to run longer. But chances are if your watch has stopped, you need to replace the battery. The case removed, you can see what’s holding the battery in place. With a spring clip or loose installation, you have easy access. Many batteries are held in place with a screw and cover that will require a small screwdriver. It’s best to use non-conductive watch tools to avoid damaging your watch with an electric shock. The same is true for the tweezers you’ll want to use for removing the battery. Plastic is best to avoid shock. Before removing the battery check the position of the writing on the back. You want to set the replacement battery in the same manner. The information on your old battery will tell you what replacement you’ll need. Even the most common watch battery will eventually give out. You can get a new one at a jewelry store, an electronics store, drugstore or online. Use the same plastic tools to set the new battery in place and your watch should spring back to life. If not, you may have inserted the battery upside down or the connection is broken. In the latter case, you may have to take it to a watch-repair shop. If it’s an extra pricey watch, you might want to get some help from the professionals too. The Second Hand is Skipping Did your automatic watch movement stopped working? Or is it skipping? This is a sign that your battery is near the end of its life. It’s also a warning to address the issue as soon as possible. An ailing battery could leak acid into your watch and do damage. If the second hand is locked in a back-and-forth movement in one spot, there’s likely an issue with the movement that’s beyond a simple home repair. My Watch is Running Fast (or Slow) Do nothing. This isn’t necessarily a watch problem. It’s common for watches to gain or lose a little time every day. While the changes are tiny and incremental, over time it can make it seem like you have a big problem. But unless you are losing more than a few seconds each day, there is likely no issue. The Buttons Won’t Bounce If buttons on your watch don’t pop out after they’re pushed in, the most likely culprit is dust. Even though your watch case is sealed, dirt can accumulate over time and get lodged in the springs that make the buttons pop out. Professionals use ultrasonic cleaners to safely remove the dirt. But you can use plastic tweezers and a tiny piece of absorbent material to remove the dirt. If you can’t easily access the tube that contains the spring, take it to a professional. Do not touch the spring with your fingers as you could introduce oils that will make the problem worse. Smartwatch Solutions I’m Always Recharging Much like your mobile phone and tablet, if your watch isn’t holding a charge for long you should look at what’s draining the battery. Remove apps you don’t need. Turn off features you aren’t using and dim your screen’s brightness. Voice Command Problems: If your smartwatch is having trouble recognizing voice commands, it could be background noise. Make sure your voice isn’t competing with other sounds. Some trial and error with tone and pacing will also be needed to make your voice commands instantly recognizable. I’ve Got a Sticky Apple The crown on the Apple Watch is notorious for sticking and ceasing to register each click. Turn off the watch and pour warm water on the whirligig for about 15 seconds. Bluetooth Won’t Connect Simple as it sounds, turn your Bluetooth off and on again to reconnect. But perhaps the best advice when attempting to repair your own watch is caution. A few pennies saved with home maintenance could do damage that could cost you quite a few dollars.
