New Tutima Glashuette Sky Watches

Tutima Glashutte Sky: Spunk and Functionality in One Elegant Watch

There is a waft of flamboyance to the Tutima Glashutte Sky Automatic collection. Its spirit is most visible on its dial, polished with a dark color gradient that carries a significant portion of the Sky Automatic’s aesthetic appeal.

Despite paying homage to a simpler time, the Sky Automatic is unafraid to incorporate modern features into its designs. Its most contemporary choice is its large dial size, despite having a slim and slender silhouette. This is also paired with a simple dial, showing only the time, date, and the Tutima Glashutte logo.

The Tutima Glashutte Sky Automatic was built to fit comfortably on your wrist, especially with its curved lugs and light Milanese bracelet. The 18K gold-sealed rotor further imposes a touch of elegance to your timekeeping.

How much is a Tutima Glashutte Sky watch?

Pieces in the Tutima Glashutte Sky collection are priced within the range of $1,170 USD to $1,700 USD. Options you can choose from include: the Tutima Glashutte Sky 6105-24 (with a Green dégrade dial), the Tutima Glashutte Sky 6105-22 (with a Blue dégrade dial), the Sky Automatic Tutima Glashutte Sky 6105-20 (with a Grey dégrade dial), and the Sky Automatic Tutima Glashutte Sky 6105-26 (with a Red dégrade dial).

All Sky Automatic pieces are housed in scratch-resistant and polished cases. Aesthetically, the Sky Automatic is most notable for its “dark dégradé colour gradient”. The watches’ dials balance otherwise basic colors with a touch of dark opulence. As a result, Sky Automatic watches do not blend in with the crowd: they stand out and rightfully so, but not for loud and tacky reasons.

The Sky Automatic’s aesthetic is commonly related to vintage watches. This is not unfounded, as Tutima gave the Sky Automatic a simple dial with a date window and one crown. This stylistic choice dates back to the 1970s, and very specifically to a James Bond dinner party.

However, when it comes to features of the Sky Automatic, one will see its contemporary influences. An example of this is its relatively large diameter of 41 mm, a size that is not uncommon for a men’s watch. However, when this is paired with its design, one gets a piece that is bolder than most men’s watches.

These aesthetic features are wrapped around your wrist with a Milanese bracelet. Without getting too technical, this bracelet is a stainless steel mesh, giving it fluidity but heft once worn. As a bonus, it is reminiscent of the padding inside a knight’s armor, giving Sky Automatic watches a more distinguished appearance.

History Behind the Tutima Glashutte Sky Collection

Tutima Glashutte was founded in 1927, where its passion for innovation and artistry were products of its time period. Tutima Glashutte was influenced by many different art forms during its inception, from fashion to music and even engineering.

It was because of its drive for innovation that Tutima Glashutte introduced a line of wristwatches. At the time, the most popular means of telling time was with pocket watches. It was not until Director Ernst Kurtz realized the trajectory of horology that embarked on a journey into the world of watchmaking.

By 1939, Tutima Glashutte became an established watch company. Its main audience were drivers and pilots, as this was a period of war. A popular collection during this time was the Flieger Chronograph, which is still offered today. Tutima even produced watches exclusively for the German Air Force. This partnership went on for almost four years, ending in 1945.

The company sold and produced many chronograph watches that military men would use and bring with them all over the world. Due to this, Glashutte became much better known as time went on.

By the 1980s, Tutima had become a world-renowned brand. The Tutima Military Chronograph ref. 798, for example, was awarded during this time period. Despite this newfound success, Tutima Glashutte never left its home. In fact, it even honed in on its roots as it made watches within Berlin, the capital of Germany.

From then till now, Tutima highlights the importance of functionality and space efficiency. Compared to other watches, a Tutima is sleek and thin, even though it can have a large (41 mm) diameter. In fact, “Tutima” was derived from the Latin word meaning “safe and secure”.

The Sky Automatic is one of the brand’s newer offerings. This collection features a more contemporary size and style, while still retaining the brand’s signature cross of color with a vintage silhouette. Its caliber, the Tutima 330, comes from a long line of in-house calibers from the brand.

Tutima now boasts Tutima 521, as it keeps its innovation churning. The brand also introduced a HOMAGE minute repeater in the early 2010s. This was revolutionary, limited to 25 pieces each with over 500 parts working with precision and harmony.

It can be worn by any man without question, because of its range of dial colors, suiting men of different styles. Furthermore, this collection is born from a line of high-performance aeronautical watches. Thanks to this, Tutima Glashutte ensures the quality and durability of each timepiece, even though they are best worn at a dinner party. Covered in stainless steel, Tutima Glashutte Sky watches gleam with an avant-garde appeal. Colorful but vintage, the Tutima Glashutte Sky collection balances contemporary artistry, masculinity, and quality in one collection.
