Introduction to Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix Watches

Vacheron Constantin timepieces have acquired no little degree of fame and notoriety due to their quite incredibly ability to combine simple aesthetics with some of the most advanced and complex haute horlogerie on the planet. Due to this reputation for luxury, the brand has long carried a price tag to match, with most of their options coming in precious metals such as yellow, pink or white gold.

With the Fiftysix range of watches however, Vacheron Constantin are looking to open the brand up ever so slightly and make their watches more accessible through the use of stainless steel in addition to gold options. Without losing any of their technological chops or, for that matter, their flawless design, this new range of Vacheron Constantin watches represent the first time in history that the brand has offered a non sports type watch in both a precious metal and steel.

With similarities, in this sense at least, to the slightly sportier Quai de l’Ile series, Vacheron Constantin’s FiftySix range is shot through with 1950’s vintage style, something cemented by the use of a sector dial, baton hour signifiers, box crystal and Arabic numerals, which were a favourite in the era.

Inspired by the reference 6073 from the 50’s, the FiftySix boasts a caliber 1326 movement with a pink gold rotor. Both options, the pink gold and the steel, represent a wonderful entry level timepiece for younger buyers seeking a Vacheron Constantin.

With a 40mm case, this is a beautifully simple watch that represents something of a new frontier for Vacheron Constantin’s design team. Ideal for day to day wear, the FiftySix collections provides a sub-$15,000 luxury watch from a brand that does not tend to create timepieces below this mark.

Vacheron Constantin As A Brand

Clearly, Vacheron Constantin are looking to broaden their reach with this series of watches and the results are some of the most refreshing products in this entire sector of the industry. Now, it must be understood that an entry level watch for Vacheron Constantin is by no means the same thing that you might be used to from other companies.

This is a brand that produces some of the most prestigious timepieces on earth and so the FiftySix series absolutely does not feel anything even close to a consolation prize. Take the dial for example, with the sheer luxury of the silvered opaline centre with sunburst outer track speaking for itself.

With brown alligator straps for the more expensive pink gold model or a striking dark grey leather strap for the stainless steel piece, Vacheron Constantin have certainly created a classy yet masculine watch with the FiftySix. Water resistant to 30 metres, this is as rugged as you would expect from a timepiece of this calibre, whilst the interior movement is a thing of beauty, too.

The house manufactured calibre 1326 movement boasts a power reserve of 48 hours and is, of course, a piece of the highest level automatic horology engineering. With all of this at a sub-$15,000 price tag, Vacheron Constantin have outdone themselves with this beautiful series of self winding watches.
