How much is a Casio G-Shock watch?

The Casio G-Shock collection has a wide variety of affordable selection that offers unique features while still offering its signature durable exterior. The approximate price range of the G-Shock starts at $100 USD up to more than $1,000 USD. That said, several variations of G-Shock can be quite expensive due to the state-of-the-art features which made them a popular choice within the market.

Here are a few of the most notable G-Shock models:

Prices for the Casio G-Shock Rangeman

The Casio G-Shock Rangeman series is the Japanese brand’s top dog when it comes to outdoor activities and harsh terrain. It doesn’t matter whether you’re on a snowy mountain, in the desert, or even in a jungle, the Rangeman will surely hold its own without sustaining any damage whatsoever.

One of the popular models of the Rangeman series is the Casio G-Shock GW-9400J-1JF. its carbon-fiber insert adds a more authentic and classy look despite its size. It sports a digital dial that indicates the hours, minutes, seconds, date, and the day of the week. It also comes with a digital compass along with a barometer/altimeter, and a thermometer; which makes it the best outdoor partner.

The price of the Casio G-Shock GW-9400J-1JF starts at $399 USD. With its improved features and scratch-resistant mineral glass, this model is surely the best choice if you are looking for an outdoor watch.

Prices for the Casio G-Shock Mudmaster

The Casio G-Shock Mudmaster series is basically a different version of the Rangeman series with a number of exceptions. One of which is its hybrid analog and digital display. Recently, Casio’s focus has been on analog display watches, which prompted them to go for a hybrid display that is equipped with the tactical features that previous Mudmaster and Rangeman models had.

One of the most notable models in the Mudmaster series is the Casio G-Shock Mudmaster GWG-100GB-1AJF. It brandishes a black and gold exterior that complements its black dial and gold-toned minute hands. It also comes with the signature triple sensor to assist the wearer during an outdoor activity. With that in mind, the GWG-100GB-1AJF is not only shock-resistant, but it can also withstand vibration and sand intrusion due to its structure.

The Casio G-Shock Mudmaster GWG-100GB-1AJF does not come off cheap. Much like the Rangemn GW-9400J-1JF, it is priced at $399 USD. If you prefer a watch that has a hybrid display that offers extreme resistance to harsh conditions, the GWG-100GB-1AJF is the best choice for you. What’s more, the gold-coated stainless steel is a plus.

Prices for the Casio G-Shock Frogman

Another part of the Master of G collection is the Casio G-Shock Frogman series. Unlike both Rangeman and Mudmaster whose underwater capabilities are limited to an extent, the Frogman doubles down on its underwater prowess.

The prime model for the Frogman series is the Casio G-Shock Frogman GWF-D1000B-1JF. It has a unique design compared to its heavy-duty counterparts. It has a digital display with a day and date section. Not only that, the GWF-D1000B-1JF has an ISO of 200m water resistance and an anti-reflective coating sapphire glass.

The pricing for the Frogman series is quite a huge leap from the aforementioned models. The Casio G-Shock Frogman GWF-D1000B-1JF is currently priced at $1,089 USD. It is a hefty sum but with its Tough Solar MULTIBAND 6 movement, it will make a great addition to your watch collection or apparel.

Prices for the Casio G-Shock Stainless Steel and Titanium Watches

The Casio G-Shock models are not entirely made of rubber or carbon, there are also models made of stainless steel. One of which is the Casio G-Shock Full Metal series.

The Full Metal series is basically a single model with several color options. The most popular colors are stainless steel and gold-coated Casio G-Shock Full Metal GMW-B5000GD-9JF. This model is a vintage classic that is reintroduced in the modern world. It still has the same design, but with several additional features like a solar cell that helps in maintaining the display clarity, and the light-on-dark LCD functionality adds more to its sleek design.

With the GMW-B5000GD-9JF sporting a vintage design, the approximate price is a bit higher. Starting at $669 USD for the gold variant, the price is somewhat reasonable given its product line and the historical value of its design. Definitely a must-have.

Prices for the Casio G-Shock Limited Editions

Much like most products in the market, Casio also has a few rare finds under its sleeves. Casio has done collaborations with several pop culture icons throughout the years.

In honor of the 80th anniversary of Blue Note Records, the Casio G-Shock G-Steel Blue Note Records or the Casio G-Shock GST-B100BNR-1AJR was produced. It has a stunning color scheme that matches any formal apparel seamlessly. It is solar-powered and its analog display adds class to its whole design making it an appropriate tribute to the renowned Blue Note Records. Not only that, but it also has a 200m water resistance.

The G-Shock GST-B100BNR-1AJR is currently priced at $699 USD and above. With its unique design and its scarcity, the price is a fairly reasonable one.

Prices for the Casio G-Shock Baby G and G-MS

Most of the mentioned models are either bulky or are bigger for children and women’s wrists. That is why Casio produced a G-Shock model that is made specifically for women and children. These models are called Casio G-Shock Baby G and G-MS models. They are both petite in size which is a perfect fit for their wrists.

One model worth noting in the Baby G series is the BGA-280-7A. Since Baby G models are basically smaller and effeminate versions of the main G-Shock line, the BGA-280-7A stayed true to its predecessor. This model is equipped with mineral glass, Neobrite (Casio’s own glow-in-the-dark coating), and a white LED. The BGA-280-7A also sports a hybrid display to add more flexibility and compatibility to the wearer’s preferences.

The Baby G BGA-280-7A is currently marketed at $134 USD. This is the best model to get if you are looking for a much simpler design that is closer to its predecessors.

As for the G-MS series, the MSGS200G-7A model offers an elegant design with a rose gold case and a white band. This model’s design is quite different from Baby G’s and the main G-Shock line. It’s basically a slimmer, more compact watch model that is perfect for both formal and casual wear. The MSGS200G-7A is still shock-resistant, which is a staple for the G-Shock models; it also has a mineral glass, a screw-lock crown, and it has 100m water resistance.

The MSGS200G-7A is approximately priced at $180 USD. It is a bit more expensive than the aforementioned Baby G model due to its elegant design paired with G-Shock’s signature sturdiness.

New Releases: 2021 Casio G-Shock Models

Casio released three new models in February 2021. These are the GM-6900SG-9 Digital, GM-5600SG-9 Digital, and the GM-110SG-9A Analog-Digital. These three are part of the G-Shock Metal Covered lineup. These three models brandish a shiny gold-coated bezel that sets them apart from the collection. Other than that, they sport a transparent band that offers a unique design that complements their small size.

The GM-6900SG-9 Digital, GM-5600SG-9 Digital, and the GM-110SG-9A Analog-Digital all offer the same internal features. All three have 200-meter water resistance, shock resistance, stopwatch, and 48-City World Time. The only difference is their display since both the GM-6900SG-9 and GM-5600SG-9 are equipped with a digital display, unlike the GM-110SG-9A whose display is both analog and digital.

The GM-6900SG-9 is currently priced at $230 USD. As for the GM-5600SG-9, it is marketed at the price of $220 USD. And lastly, the GM-110SG-9A costs $240 USD which is the most expensive one in the group due to its hybrid display.

Casio G-Shock Technology: Twin, Triple, and Quad Sensors

The Casio G-Shock is well-known to have various built-in sensors that proved to be useful for mountaineers, the military, and divers. These sensors are categorized into three groups: Twin sensors, Triple sensors, and Quad sensors. G-Shock models are installed with only one sensor group, depending on the model.

Twin Sensors consist of a compass and a thermometer. These two are the basic necessary components of an outdoor watch to improve utility during an outdoor activity. A prime example of a G-Shock model with a Twin Sensor is the G-9300-1 Mudman. This model as well as other models with twin sensors can be regarded as one of the beginner-level watches.

G-Shock models with Triple Sensors are those equipped with an Altimeter, a Barometer/Thermometer, and a compass. One example of a G-Shock model with a Triple Sensor is the Rangeman GW-9400-1. This model maximizes its capability to assist the wearer in becoming more perceptive about their surroundings.

Lastly, Quad Sensors are the latest addition of Casio to their G-Shock models, particularly the Master of G line. Installed with an Altimeter to indicate altitude, a Barometer/Thermometer to help predict the weather, a digital compass, and a step counter. With the new step counter, wearers can keep track of the steps they have made. The counter starts automatically and will provide an accurate step count once you start walking.

Casio G-Shock’s Tough Solar and Multiband 6 Features

Tough Solar and Multiband 6 are the two common features that a majority of Casio watches have. There are a few models that are not equipped with one of these two but are still regarded as great watches nonetheless.

Tough Solar is the solar battery that is built-in within various G-Shock models. This battery can theoretically last up to 10 years without having the need to replace it. But then again, it can also depend on the model as well as its usage. Regardless of this fact, the Tough Solar technology is a very durable solar battery that is sure to provide maximum utility.

The Multiband 6, on the other hand, is a radio technology that allows the watch to connect and sync up to six transmission stations worldwide. This made it possible to automatically adjust the time depending on the timezone you want accurately.

Vintage Casio G-Shock— Is it a Worthy Investment?

Vintage classics like the first Casio G-Shock DW-5000C model are still a great find, especially for a collector. Even though the DW-5000C came out in 1983, it can still hold on its own due to its simplistic design and color scheme. It is a well-loved classic that has all the basic functions that a G-Shock watch must-have. In fact, Casio released an homage to this model back in 2016. The DW5600HR-1 is basically the same model with the same design but with new and improved features to match the modern era.

With that in mind, going for the newer version of the classic DW-5000C would be the better choice if you are not into collecting vintage or retro models.

A Quick Look at the Casio G-Shock’s History

The Casio G-Shock line was born from an idea to create a watch that never breaks. This idea started with the story of Mr. Ibe, whose beloved pocket watch (given by his father) broke down. This urged him to set a goal in creating an unbreakable watch. He later became a Casio engineer and managed to fulfill his goal. This is why in 1983, the first G-Shock watch took the market by storm. From then on, Mr. Ibe’s ideas laid the foundation to produce the toughest watch in the world.
