Blending high end aesthetic with a traditional element, the Superocean Heritage range from Breitling is a stunning range of watches that combine modern and contemporary aesthetics. This striking range embodies Breitling’s love of adventure and performance whilst managing to stand out from all other watches in the brand’s oeuvre.
Cool and contemporary yet deeply traditional too, the Superocean Heritage is a state-of-the-art dive watch, water-resistant and blessed with a unidirectional ratcheted bezel. Along with this there is a COSC-certified case that is home to the Breitling Manufacturing Caliber 01, a beautiful movement with a power reserve of around 70 hours. It should be said that Léon Breitling was a high end watchmaker who crafted both watches and intelligent measuring tools in his St. Imier manufacture. In just a short time, the smart features that he made for his pocket watches made Léon’s name a respected one.
Actually, Léon Breitling put all of his love into chronographs, which were becoming more and more popular in the last years of the 19th century for their industrial, military and scientific uses as well as for sporting reasons. In 1889, Léon Breitling was given a patent for a stripped back watch, which stood out from the rest with its clever style, easy manufacturing and simple up keep.
Léon Breitling died in 1914 and his son Gaston took over the family brand. He had inherited his father’s ingenious spirit, creativity, and an unquenchable love for chronographs, which he showed in 1915 with the release of one of the globe’s very first chronographs with an iconic push-piece right over the watch crown.
Breitling’s Legacy Continues
The brand went from strength to strength until 1952 with the launch of a completely original watch that to this day is considered a legendary model. The Breitling Navitimer is an amalgamation of the words navigation and timer, boasting as it does with the flight specific slide rule that was first launched with the Chronomat watch. Certainly, it is no surprise that thousands of pilots, airlines and aircraft manufacturers have decided to go with this timepiece.
After the registration of Breitling Montres SA in 1982, the company shifted to the town of Grenchen under new owners. Indeed, the company had its 100th anniversary in 1984 with a totally renovated Chronomat marking the occasion. This was a watch famous for its bezel and its stunning automatic calibre. The watch was inspired by a watch that Breitling had created the year before the famous flying group Frecce Tricolori.
After this, in May 2017, Breitling was bought out by CVC Capital Partners and in July of that year, Georges Kern took on the role of CEO. With his group, Kern, who had by then made a big name for himself in horology, was able to continue the extremely beautiful Breitling story whose roots stretched all the way back to a miniscule factory in St. Imier in the late 19th century.
In the end, the Breitling Superocean Heritage is an icon of modern Swiss horology, a maculine yet elegant timepiece that has created a massive following across the planet. Still just as ideal for aviation as when it was first launched, the Avenger is a gorgeous item that has within it every inch of the story of this most loved company.
