New Alpina Horological Smartwatch Watches

Alpina Horological Smartwatch: Smartwatches for Analog Purists

Alpina was first founded in 1883 with a vision to unite Swiss watchmakers to develop high-quality technical innovations and calibers. After the union’s collaborative efforts, Alpina has established its own name in the watchmaking industry as a brand that is closely linked to horological innovations. The brand started with pocket watches, chronometers, sports watches, chronographs, diving watches, tourbillons, and now horological smartwatches that proved the brand’s continuous innovation by combining quality in-house calibers, high-precision functions, and at the same time, equipped with smartwatch features that go along with modernity.

Introduced in 2015, the Alpina Horological Smartwatch boasts both the brand’s classic traditional watchmaking and modern technology, offering Swiss-made smartwatches that are equipped with an analog and quantified-self functionalities display, using watch hands. There are currently new horological smartwatches under the Alpina Comtesse and Alpina Seastrong series that were introduced during Baselworld 2015, equipped with additional smartwatch features that can be connected to an iPhone or Android app.

Unlike modern smartwatches, the Alpina Horological Smartwatches don’t come with a digital screen. The display is in a form of analog, retaining its classic look but with smartwatch functions like a sensor-fusion engine that tracks your sleep and activity. The user can access their data by downloading an application on their smartphones as the watch automatically updates your data in real-time. Among the movements that the smartwatch tracks are steps, distance, and sleep patterns every day, every week, and every month. This will help the user to better understand and improve their active lifestyle.

The horological smartwatches come in either 36mm or 44mm casing with either white glass fiber, stainless steel, or fiberglass material. Its dials also vary from white, black, mother of pearl, or blue. They are also water-resistant up to 100m.

Alpina Horological Smartwatch's History and Design Details

Alpina was first established in 1883 in Geneva, Switzerland, by Gottlieb Hauser who founded the Alpina Union Horlogere S.A with a vision to unite the Swiss watchmaking industry into creating quality innovations. By 1901, the trademark “Alpina” was registered by Jacob Straub to protect his 12 and 19 line calibers and by that time, almost all high-end watches of the union now carry the famous triangle Alpina mark in their movements. Back then, the name Alpina was only used for marking their movements and it was only on the 25th anniversary of the union that it was registered as a brand name for their timepieces.

This started the brand’s expansion and bigger watch innovations garnering them a reputation of creating numerous patents and innovative calibers including the famous red triangle mark signature of the brand. After several successful caliber innovations, Alpina started releasing a variety of watches such as chronographs, diving watches and even invented the concept of the Swiss sports watch after creating the iconic Alpina 4 in 1938.

As the vision of Alpina continuously thrives throughout the years, the innovation did not stop there. In 2015, Alpina introduced the Horological smartwatch series that features a marriage between traditional and modern technology watches. Underneath the classic-looking watch are added smartwatch features connected through bi-directional communication with iPhone and Android apps for easy access. Among the smart features of the watch are sensor-fusion engines that track your activity and sleep patterns. The activity and sleep pattern information is updated in real-time through an application on a user’s mobile phone and is displayed and presented in understandable graphics. It records the user’s movement including steps and distance as well as sleep patterns during the day, the week, and even the month. This feature will help assist the user in better understanding their habits, set up their own lifestyle goals, and improve their own well-being.

Unlike the modern digital smartwatches, the Alpina Horological Smartwatch doesn’t have the normal digital screen to present the data. Instead, it has beautiful laser-cut hands on the watch dial, displaying the information in analog form. The watch’s small red hand indicates the date and points to the moon during sleep. Meanwhile, the small steel hand shows the percentage of the user’s activity and sleep goals.

Among the newest horological smartwatches are under the Seastrong and Comtesse collections that carry the same elegance and diving features but with added smart functions. These watches are dressed in either white glass fiber, stainless steel, or fiberglass casing with white, black, mother of pearl, or blue dials. They are also water-resistant up to 100m and come in either 36mm or 44mm size.
